Prohibited AI Practices: EU AI Act

Please help growth by sharing this content.

I’m trying to understand the impact of the EU AI Act on AI This is a post I originally wrote on linkedIn and X

? Prohibited AI Practices: EU AI Act ?

What do you think?

Over regulation by the nanny state.

OR

Prudent, wise move by the EU.

What’s banned ? (Full text below)

“practices that are deemed to pose an unacceptable risk”

I know my risk tolerance has changed over my life

What is an “unacceptable risk” ?

How do you apply it to 400million people if they have different risk tolerance?

? My thoughts are that while there’s some prudence to the approach, the EU are not going to move on their position at the rate that AI will develop outside the EU. This is self-evident now because OpenAI GPT and Meta Lama current models are already feature restricted in the EU – to put that into context. AI is like the internet in 1995 – we are only at the beginning. Imagine this level of restriction in1995 on the internet?

The “rules” to me feel like a ‘please everyone’, catch-all, that were written by a HR company ?. So this leaves ALL EU based AI companies in a restrained position. That’s not good for the EU economy which looks like it’s facing oblivion…

I’d love for you to discuss this as the EU is now already on the back-foot of the next wave. YES AI could take over the ? world…. (If that’s your extreme fear) But lets actually understand what it’s doing now and not have a bureaucrat take over the world instead.

I’ve found it difficult to understand what’s going on myself directly from the ? EU so Here’s some text from open AI that seems like a good summary.

(Paradoxically- I’ve used chatGPT to better understand what’s going on myself)
