SEMIC 2026 takes place on Monday 30 November at the RDS, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. It is the European Commission's flagship conference on semantic interoperability and digital government, organised by DG DIGIT with the support of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is an in-person event, and the organisers expect more than 500 participants.

The theme is Interoperable Europe driving competitiveness: how reusable digital public infrastructure, common specifications and shared data can help public administrations avoid fragmentation and deliver more connected services. This year the practical workshops move into the main programme, so one day mixes high-level talks with hands-on sessions, alongside the SEMIC EXPO and the Public Sector Tech Watch Awards. SEMIC was last held in Dublin in 2013.

Why we're going: MapClick, our own software, keeps one sourced record for each real place, joining information from councils, national bodies and communities while keeping track of where each fact came from. Shared specifications, and data that keeps its meaning as it moves between organisations, are the same questions at European scale. We are attending to learn how public administrations are approaching them.

Who's on

  • Dr Aida Kamišalić Latifić, keynote speaker, Assistant Professor and Researcher at the University of Maribor and former State Secretary at Slovenia's Ministry of Digital Transformation. Keynote: Turning Europe's AI investment into competitiveness: interoperability as strategic infrastructure.
