HTC – short for HTC How To Company Limited was founded by Kevin Egan in 2023.
“In ’22 I exited my previous company, a venture I co-founded and built into an international powerhouse. We dominated the market by constantly innovating. We gave customers exceptional experiences, this created raving fans. These customers were happy to give us thousands of 5-star reviews which brought us further growth and success. The exit from my company afforded me the opportunity to retire from the need to work for quite a while. During this period of reflection and observation, I delved into activities that brought me immense joy, ultimately revealing my next mission.”
The first story
One day, precisely 228 days before I sold by company, I was walking down a deserted road pondering what to do next in life. I had some ideas but no clear picture. My daily walks took me through a technology park, created in the 1990s. It had become very sparsely populated, most days it was just me and the birds. This experience of solitude gave me ample space to explore and think. I spent a lot of time observing and writing and photographing. I wrote hundreds of notes on my walks and developed a love for writing about my experiences. Writing helped me gain a deeper understanding of my thoughts.
You’ve heard of the universe giving signs, but it literally did give me a sign, a physical one.
The picture below is taken on the 10th December 2021 at 11:18am. The picture captures the moment I picked up the small sign on the path. I took the picture because I knew the moment was significant, I knew it would be fun to tell the story about it some day (that’s today) from inside the new company. The sign was etched with the letters HTC. The name ‘How To Company’ immediately came to mind and now it sits in my new studio HTC Studio 1 as a reminder to me of the significance of a moment.
I’ve a wonderous passion for so many things, I’ve spent so much time observing the workings of things. I’ve observed in detail everything from the systems in my company, to the engineering of the waterworks next door, construction sites, the behaviours of the birds, people, nature, rivers, animals, trees, and everything else growing around me, the workings of my head, and more in between. I decided that after I had sold my company my next one would be about exploring all my interests. Perhaps If I could nurture the ability to tell a story, I could perhaps describe things in a way that would be of some service to the world and everything in it. At the heart of HTC is a responsibility to observe and possibly understand what’s happening and perhaps leave a humble trail along the path where someone else might pickup a sign that may positively guide their intentions.
In 2022 I formally started HTC How to company XYZ limited and began documenting my experiences on this website. After 9 months of that I decided to focus my energies on a particular aspect of the research for the next while. My most significant observation has two parts. First you must understand that everything is about YOU, then you’ll realise that, it’s not about you. The challenge of explaining that is one I call ‘Navigator’ and it is the focus of HTC for 2024 and perhaps beyond.
